UC Lutheran Student Fellowship

Fall Quarter at the University of Cincinnati has ended for students at UC, but not for the work of Lutheran Student Fellowship as preparations are already underway for next quarter.  Over the past weeks and months as I have talked with students and visited congregations and other campus ministries, a clearer vision of this ministry has taken shape.

LSF actively shares the truth of God’s salvation by grace through faith in Christ and prepares students to live in God’s kingdom on campus, in the community, and in congregations.  Through this work, a growing number of students on area campuses will thoughtfully explore life in the context of Christian faith as they wrestle with what it means to be followers of Jesus.

This is exciting work that God is placing before the LCMS churches in the Cincinnati area.  I truly appreciate everyone’s support in this effort throughout the past months and look forward to strengthening the relationships built so far.

Below are some activity updates and plans for the coming months.  Please share the following information with the congregations and groups with which you are involved.  If you have any questions or would like to respond to any of the requests, please contact me at 859.802.4515 or jamie.noyd@gmail.com.

Student Connections

Over the past quarter, seven students attended at least one activity.  After two months of weekly Bible studies, we ended the quarter with an Advent event that included dinner, fellowship, and time for reflection.  In addition, I had celebration dinners with students after finals were over.  Even though small, a group spirit is forming.

New Initiatives

During the Winter and Spring Quarters I plan to meet individually with these and other students to continue building the group and to prepare for wider outreach.  Through these conversations and relationships I pray that God will help the students grow in love for and service to Christ and provide ways for the group to serve in and around campus.  In addition to activities at UC, I am working with Kim Schave from St. Paul Lutheran to explore the possibility of starting a group at NKU.

Weekly Forums and Bible discussions

Based on student interest, we will continue holding two Bible studies each week at Rohs Street Café, 245 W. McMillan, next to University Christian Church.  College-age adults from any school or area of Greater Cincinnati are welcome to attend.
  • Mondays, 7:00 PM: Meeting God Today
  • Tuesdays, 12:00 PM: Exploring Jesus’ Parables, led by Rev. Andrew Norris
Campus Ministry Advisory Team
Our first meeting is scheduled for 6:30 PM, Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Pomodori’s (121 W. McMillan).  Anyone interested in providing ideas, input, and support for campus ministry is welcome to attend.

Campus Ministry Coordinator Installation

On January 4, 2009, Jamie will be installed in the position of Campus Ministry Coordinator at the 10:45 am service at Bethany Lutheran (3501 Turkeyfoot Road, Erlanger, KY).  All are welcome.

LSF Student Leaders Needed

I am looking for some students to help build the group over the next year.  If you know of students who could assist with any of the following activities, please let me know.
  • Campus Event Planning
  • Web site Development
  • Communication
  • Community Service
  • Bible Studies
Prayer Requests
  • Students would develop strong relationships with Christ and each other;
  • God would call students to be leaders of the group;
  • Our eyes would be open to the ministry needs on campus.
  • Opportunities to meet local students with whom you have contact.
May we all know and share the incarnate Word this Advent and Christmas season

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.   Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.   John 1:1-5

In Christ’s Grace,
Jamie
